The Information Regulator's guide
The Information Regulator publishes a guide on how to use PAIA and POPIA, in all official languages. Get it from the Information Regulator's website, or ask us and we'll send you a copy.
Records we hold
- Available without a request: everything public on versionone.co.za, including builder profiles, live listings, launches, spotlights, the privacy page and this manual.
- Builders and visitors: sign-in accounts and email addresses, builder profiles, listings and their review history, screenshots, help asks and help offers, and reports about listings.
- Company records: statutory company records, tax and accounting records, and agreements with the services that run the site.
Some records are kept because other laws require it, including the Companies Act 71 of 2008, the Income Tax Act 58 of 1962, the Value-Added Tax Act 89 of 1991 and the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.
How to ask for a record
Fill in Form 2 (Request for access to a record), from the Information Regulator's website, and email it to privacy@versionone.co.za. Say which record you want, how you'd like to get it, and which right you need it to exercise or protect. If you're asking on someone else's behalf, say so and show that you may.
We'll answer within 30 days. PAIA lets us extend that once, by up to 30 days, and we'll tell you if we do. To see or correct your own information, you don't need a form: use your page or email us.
Fees
Asking for your own personal information is free. For other records, PAIA's regulations allow a request fee and an access fee for copying and preparing records. We'll tell you any fee before we charge it.
Refusals and complaints
We may refuse a request only on the grounds in Chapter 4 of Part 3 of PAIA, for example to protect someone else's privacy or confidential commercial information, and we'll give our reasons. If you disagree with a decision, you can complain to the Information Regulatoror apply to court.
Personal information
What we process and why, who it's shared with, where it's stored, how long we keep it and how we protect it are on the privacy page. In short: we use it only to run Version One, it's processed by Cloudflare and Maileroo whose servers may be outside South Africa, it's sent over HTTPS, and only the reviewer can open the admin pages.
